I’m a senior at Claremont McKenna College. I want to learn about how evolutionary biology and signaling explain human behavior, what we can do to grow the world economic pie, why people make cognitive mistakes, and how I can become more productive.
I started this blog to give my friends and family an idea of what I’m reading and thinking about, to sharpen my thoughts, and to improve my own writing. I read plenty of books, papers, blogs and magazine articles, and this blog is an ideal place to share the things I am reading and thinking about. I also write for the CMC Forum, Claremont McKenna’s online newspaper.
I live an unusual life for a 21 year old; I don’t watch TV or play video games, and I spend at least three hours a day reading. It’s hard to convey in concrete terms the advantages of being well-read, but they surely exist. I funnel most communication into my email and RSS reader, but I can go without checking those for as long as I need to. Recently I canceled my smartphone and picked up a $10 phone off Ebay. As a general rule, I don’t argue with people in conversation. If I do argue with you, it probably means I respect your open-mindedness.
If I could change one government policy, I would open America’s borders to more immigrants. I also favor higher taxes on energy and think most ‘green’ behavior is just signaling. A Facebook group I started was featured in the Economist.
In a year I will be on the job market (hire me!). Here’s my resume.
I love being able to talk to people one-on-one. If you want to motivate me, tell me I’m not working hard enough. If you want me to goof around, give me plenty of compliments.
For the past three summers I’ve worked at the Excel in Basketball Camp at De La Salle High School in Concord, CA. My favorite charities are the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Institute for Justice, both of which have 4-star ratings at Charity Navigator.
If you would like to get an update when I write a new post, consider using an RSS reader, or sign up to receive an email when I write something new. Send me an email here. If you want to read the same things I’m reading, you can download the list of RSS feeds I read (OPML). I am on Facebook and Twitter.
